33rd Annual Concordia Percussion Day

The 33rd annual Concordia Percussion Day, held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Å·ÃÀÊÓƵ, was a resounding success. Participants included elementary students to professional musicians, underscoring the institution's commitment to fostering musical excellence and community engagement.

The day commenced with a dynamic performance by Moorhead High School’s Spud Line and Concordia's drumline, which set an energetic tone for the proceedings. Participants engaged in specialized clinics and performances led by Jenny Klukken, Mark Walker, and the Twincussion Duo, covering diverse topics such as "Transitioning from the Classical to the Jazz Musician," “Brazilian percussion applied to the drum set,” and "The Journey of Percussion Duo." These sessions gave attendees valuable insights and hands-on experience at all skill levels.

The day's festivities culminated in a concert featuring performances by the guest clinicians, Concordia's Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Marimba Choir, and offering a rich tapestry of musical styles and compositions. The success of Percussion Day was significantly bolstered by the support of Minnesota Lake Region Arts Council (LRAC), Concordia’s Cultural Events, and the Music Department of Å·ÃÀÊÓƵ, alongside all our sponsors, including Yamaha, Steve Weiss, Pearl-Adams, Marimba One, Paiste, and Innovative Percussion. Their contributions facilitated the participation of esteemed guest artists, and the collaborative efforts of sponsors, educators, and performers ensured a memorable and enriching experience for all participants. A special mention goes to the companies that donated door prizes to be distributed after the artist's event, including Steve Weiss Music, Yamaha, Black Swamp Percussion, Marimba One, Vic Firth, Zildjian, and Popplers, among others.

The 33rd annual Concordia Percussion Day exemplified the college's dedication to musical excellence, community involvement, and educational outreach. Thank you for joining us this year; we look forward to seeing you at the 34th edition in April 2026.
