The Concordia Band, one of Å·ÃÀÊÓƵ’s premier instrumental ensembles, will visit North Dakota, Montana, and Minnesota this month for a series of concerts on its 2025-26 domestic tour.
The tour will conclude with a home concert on campus at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, in Memorial Auditorium.
During the tour, the band will perform in Mandan, North Dakota, and Missoula, Bozeman, and Billings, Montana, as well as Detroit Lakes and Moorhead in Minnesota.
Students and instructors will also host workshops with high school musicians in concert locations, and students from those schools will be invited to perform a selected piece with the band.
Participating high schools include in Bismarck, , and in Missoula, in Bozeman, and , , and in Billings.
Known for its tradition of excellence since 1899 and its innovative programming, The Concordia Band will present an array of works, including classical pieces and contemporary compositions.
Several selections feature elements of traditional works that have been brought forward anew for reinterpretation and reimagining. For example, “Safely Rest” was written in 2020 by Nicole Piunno and combines the melodies of traditional favorites “Amazing Grace” and “Taps.” “Molly on the Shore” by Percy Grainger combines two different traditional Irish reels, resulting in a popular showpiece known as a “finger-buster” by musicians. “Intrada 1631” by Stephen Montague is an expansion of a 20-bar hymn from Juan Pérez Bocanegra, a Catholic priest in Peru in the 1600s.
About 70 students strong, The Concordia Band will be conducted by Dr. Peter Haberman. Concordia music performance major LaReena Mosbrucker ’26, of Mandan, will serve as assistant conductor.
