Summer doesn’t just mean fun for the kids heading to Concordia Choir Camp June 22-28 — it means singing, complete with rehearsals and performances as well as experiences with musical theater, songwriting, choral conducting, and musical theory.
“Students get to engage in choral music-making with other students from around the state and region,” said Dr. Michael Culloton, artistic director and conductor of the camp for high school age singers.
During the week, the high school students will sleep in a Concordia dorm, but spend much of their time rehearsing, learning more about music, and making friends with other singers from across the region. They’ll also get to perform a wide variety of music, including folk songs, gospel music, spirituals, and classically-rooted music by Vivaldi.
Performances will include a concert at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at , 213 8th St. S. in Moorhead.
“The energy and excitement that these students show throughout the week is contagious, and this camp has become a summer highlight for me,” Culloton said.
The event is a longstanding tradition in the region. Founded in 1969 by Mark Aamot as the Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir, the camp has allowed students to perform in approximately 150 venues throughout the state.
